The token is used to send push messages so we need to save it to our backend system. The token is used to identify each front end client that have subscribed to push notification for our websites.

 As we have previously seen that in our permission function we have registered a service worker and subscribed to its pushManager service,  here we will see how we can get the token.

Befor that, we need to initialize our firebase app, and so we can npm install firebase and in permission file we will have to include the following - 

```
import { initializeApp } from "firebase/app";
import {getMessaging, MessagePayload, getToken, onMessage} from "firebase/messaging";
```
and in permission function we can initialize it with

```
  const app = initializeApp(firebaseConfig);
  const messaging = getMessaging(app);
```

here firebaseConfig and vapIdKey are the values that we get when we create an accound on firebase

firebaseConfig is an object

```
export const firebaseConfig = {
  apiKey: "value",
  authDomain: "value",
  projectId: "value",
  storageBucket: "value",
  messagingSenderId: "value",
  appId: "value",
  // measurementId: "G-QYMCW288RS"/,
};
```
and vapidKey is a string, public key.

and this the the way to get the token

  getToken(messaging, {
    vapidKey: vapidKey,
    serviceWorkerRegistration: registration,
  })
    .then((currentToken) => {
     // send token to backend
      saveDeviceForNootification(currentToken);
      console.log("got currentToken", currentToken);
    })
    .catch((e) => {
      console.log("error in getting current token");
    });
};
```

you may check from the previous part that this gettoken is called  at 2 places. Once from the subscribeToPushMessage function and second when we have service worker installed and subscibed to pushManager in the first place.
